Race procedure and awarding of points

The races are held anti-clockwise on speedway tracks or sand tracks, usually in ovals, or in individual cases with right-hand bends and jump elements (“TT layout”).

In principle, up to 12 drivers start together in the final of each class.

There are two different starting options for the preliminary rounds, which can be chosen by the organizer depending on the track and the number of registered drivers.

The starting rows are 8 meters apart. Row 1 is the start/finish line. The penalty line is 10m behind the last starting line.

 

1. Prerequisites for participation

The driver must be registered for the race and approved by the organizer. The motorcycle and its protective equipment must be approved by the responsible examiners and marked accordingly.

The driver must be objectively and subjectively, physically and mentally able to take part in a race. Participation under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not permitted.

2. Training

Before a driver is allowed to take part in a racing event, he must have completed two training sessions on the track for at least two minutes on the day of the race.

The training sessions will be held in the classes in which the drivers have registered for the event.

The organizers reserve the right to make any changes to the individual classes. This can be decided for safety reasons in favor of the drivers or because of too great a difference in performance within the field of drivers.

If there are fewer than 8 entries in a class, the drivers will be integrated into another class.

3. Heats

The heats serve to qualify for the final run. During the heats, the riders receive points depending on their position when crossing the finish line.

To earn points, the rider must cross the finish line. The motorcycle must be working.

Each rider starts at least once from each starting row. The change from outside to inside starting positions and vice versa is also ensured as far as possible.

    Depending on how many points the drivers have received after the preliminary rounds, they are qualified for the final or are eliminated. The driver with the most points can choose a starting place first, then the driver with the next highest number of points, etc.

    As soon as all 12 starting places for the final are filled, the other drivers with lower points are automatically eliminated and have therefore not qualified to take part in the final.

    If two drivers have the same number of points, the driver who crossed the finish line in the last run in the better position is considered the better.

    All drivers start the final run with a score of 0. The points earned in the preliminary runs are not included in the final score.

    To score points, the driver must cross the finish line. The motorcycle must be functioning properly.

2. Final

1.       Starting procedure

The starting signal is usually given by a starting light. The lights are on from the entrance from the paddock or after lining up at the starting line. The starting signal is given when the lights go out. If no lights are available, a start/finish flag or the national flag can be used as a substitute. The flag is held up. The starting signal is given by quickly lowering the flag.

If a driver causes a false start, the race is stopped and a restart is ordered. The driver who caused the false start then starts from the penalty line.

If the same driver causes a false start again, the referee can exclude the driver from the race.

 

2. Disqualification

If a rider is not ready to start within 2 minutes of the access from the paddock to the track being closed, he will be disqualified from that heat.

If both wheels of a rider’s motorcycle cross the inner boundary of the track, the rider will be disqualified unless, in the opinion of the Referee, this was done in the interest of safety, to avoid another rider or because the rider was forced to leave the track by another rider. This rule also applies if both wheels of a rider’s motorcycle cross the outer boundary of the track.

If the same rider causes a false start twice in a heat, the Referee may disqualify the rider from the heat.

3. End of the race and scoring
The race will be ended by waving the checkered flag when the leading rider has completed the specified number of laps. All subsequent riders will be waved off and scored in the order in which they arrive. Drivers who are lapped before the last lap will also be waved off and must end the race after crossing the finish line.

 

 

4.       Cancellation of a race

If, in the opinion of the referee, a race should be cancelled in the interests of safety due to an accident on the track, the referee is empowered to do so. The rider(s) who caused the cancellation may be excluded from restarting the race.

The referee may allow any rider who has fallen due to a foul or had to drop his motorcycle or had to leave the track for safety reasons to restart. In such a situation, outside help is permitted.

Any rider affected by the restart of a race may change his motorcycle.

In the event of a race being abandoned over 6 laps:

If 1 or 2 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the race will be restarted from the original starting positions

If 3 or 4 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the race will be restarted over the remaining race distance according to the intermediate standings (starting grid see below).

If 5 or 6 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the result will be determined based on the positions at the time of abandonment.

 

In the event of an 8-lap race being abandoned:

If 1 or 2 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the race will be restarted from the original starting positions.

If 3 to 6 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the race will be restarted over the remaining race distance according to the intermediate standings (starting grid see below).

If 7 or 8 laps have been completed by all drivers still racing at the time of abandonment, the result will be determined based on the positions at the time of abandonment.

If a race is stopped more than 2 laps after the start but more than 2 laps before the finish, based on the distance covered by all riders still racing at the time of the stoppage, the riders will start staggered, one behind the other, in the same order as in the last completed lap before the race was stopped. The referee’s decision on this starting order is final; no protest or appeal is permitted. The riders must keep a distance of 1 meter from each other and the leader can choose his starting position on the inside or outside of the start line.
